The Frittenden Flyer - A weekend not to be missed

So, this weekend the sidecar teams are in action at The Frittenden Flyer (click for details)

This is the last meeting of the season at this amazing track and all the teams love this track located at Sandhurst Bridge Farm in Frittenden, Kent.

So, let's have a look at the past results from this venue and see who has the edge to come out on top and why we went with the predictions we have which are below.

Let's start with the three meetings in 2022 and the one Grasstrack meeting in 2023 and who was victorious!

Check out the past 4 results at Frittenden

Frittenden Grasstrack results for 2022-23

500cc Sidecars

You will see that from the results above we have Mitch Godden as a clear favourite on past results, who won two out of the last 3 meetings here at Frittenden, Paul Whitlam has made the top 3 in two of these and is the only other runner in this weekends 500cc Sidecar class is Jordan Smith who finished 3rd back in 2022. Going by the fixtures on Frittenden & District MCC we do have two teams that are not in the line-up that have performed well at this venue, Josh Goodwin, who has been on the podium for the last 4 races with 1st and three 3rds and Dan Berwick who has had two 3rds.

But one thing to mention is team 21 Nick Radley and Abi Radley Pedro who are out this weekend, coming out of retirement, so could we see an upset, what are your thoughts?

1000cc Left-Handed Sidecars

Any meetings held in the Kent area always have good attendance for the left-handed sidecars and this meeting is no exception, the line-up is strong, and it is one class I like watching personally, the guys hanging off the side inches from the floor are something to admire, I don’t know how they do it!

There is a mixed bag if you look at past results for this class so it is up for grabs for so many of these teams, which should mean a good watch. Rob Heath is probably the one to watch, making the final three times out of four, with two 1st places and a second place.

We then have Will Penfold with a 1st in past heats and Tommy Penfold with two 2nd places so these two will be up there in the final I believe, looking at the other teams, you Joe Holland who could be fighting for a place on the podium and some regulars in the finals of past are Michael Phillips and Danny Hill who have both seen success at Frittenden.

It's going to be a great day for this class and some very close racing!

1000cc Righthanded Sidecars

The ‘Best of the Best’ is what people say about this class, it’s the class that is rocking the sidecar scene now and the reason for that is? We have 6-8 teams that have had a cracking season this year results have been a mixed bag and the British Champion, Mark Cossar has not had his own way, his brother Tom Cossar and Terry Saunters have had some great form this year and if you look at form then these three are the guys to watch this weekend.

But looking at past results at this venue alone, Mark Cossar is a clear favourite, having seen two 1st places and a 2nd place, with Tom Cossar and Colin Blackbourn getting the other 1st places. One to watch out for is Terry Saunters, he has been on the podium for every one of the last four meetings and really struggling to get that win, with three 2nd places and a 3rd, but as we have seen over the last few meetings, he has form coming into this meeting and the guys in the background supporting him seem to be getting more and more out of his outfit.

But looking outside of the mentions above you must consider a few other teams who are closing the gap, we have a number of teams who have all benefited from Mark Cossar’s expertise in setting up their outfits and this year we even had a final where 5 of the outfits were his builds, which is great to see the British Champion passing on his knowledge!

So who has a chance of breaking into the final alongside the guys above? Will Offen had a great meeting down in Cornwall at The Boarded Circuit, if Clint Blondel can work with his new passenger he is always a threat, Dale Fish seems to be getting faster and faster, you can never count out Paul Whitelam if he gets the bike right, but I think my personal view is the two crews to watch out for this weekend will be Michael Austin and the ‘People’s Champion’ Matt Fumarola, these two guys are always in the mix…

So, if everyone has a clear run, and no bike issues, I think you are in for a cracking day's racing!
